Internet Marketing Merges with TV

YouTube on Direct TV?

I just stumbled on this today. I found my Youtube marketing videos on TV via my Direct TV box. I’m probably the last one to know about this, but just in case someone ells out there didn’t know, I thought I would share.

Why is this worth mentioning here? I had to search on Direct TV to find our videos. Mine came right up. Will yours? Yet another reason to pay attention to your SEO on social websitesSee our Web Design and SEO Channel.

Here are the instruction on how to check your videos on TV search.

Can I watch YouTube videos on my TV?
Yes. If you have an HD DVR receiver or a model R22 DVR receiver and it’s connected to your home broadband Internet network, you can access and watch YouTube videos right on your TV. Here’s how it works:

  1. Press MENU on your remote and select SEARCH & BROWSE
  2. Select SMART SEARCH
  3. YouTube videos matching your search words will appear as the last items in your search results. They will be marked “YouTube” in the right column
  4. To view, highlight the YouTube video using your arrow buttons and press SELECT and then select Play.

We’ll show you the must-have basics for effective online marketing that you will see results from almost immediately. With little or no investment, you can at least be found on search engines. Do I need a website to get started? In this article, we’re going to focus on just one thing – YOUR company getting found on the internet through ‘local search.’ Being found in local searches is absolutely, positively a must in order to survive these days . Local search refers to the local companies that come up on search results. Many times these local search results are not company websites, but rather online directories, listing services, or social websites. This is where you can capitalize! More Bay Area Business will die this Yr.

More Bay Area Business will die this Year

But, they don’t have too

I have some bad news for some and some very good news for you. If you’re reading this, you’re at least thinking about this topic, which means you have a good chance to survive.

The marketing rules are not changing, they have already changed- If you’re still advertising in the yellow pages and denying that the Internet is where your advertising budget should be, you’re probably not reading this (unfortunately) and your business will be closed by the end of this year. Sorry, but its true. I’ve been watching this happen here in the East Bay of San Francisco, CA for the last couple of years. And it’s been painful to watch. I’m writing this, not to self promote, but to help put a tourniquet on the bleeding.

Here’s a heads up…Real Estate, SF Law firms and financial institutions have been investing massive infusions of big dollars in Internet marketing for the last 5-10 years; that’s no secret. Who has not are home service companies like roofers, plumbers, carpet cleaners, contractors and blue collar companies like machinists, welders and fabricators and believe it or not, high tech fabrication companies here in Silicon Valley.

KO Launches new WordPress Websites

KO launches new WordPress websites for SIMMS INK, a Hayward, CA tattoo shop.

Simms Ink put KO Websites to the test with this web design project. A complex design we would have just two years ago, used Flash for the coding. But with the impending HTML5 on the horizon, we chose to build it with WordPress, staying within the HTML5 standards. Another reason for using the WordPress application was their easy to use content management system (CMS) and we needed to add an online shopping cart; another good reason to use WordPress.

The first challenge was making all the animation and roll over effects work on the home page without slowing down the website download too much. Next the client wanted custom fonts and minimal text, which always makes SEO a challenge.

Next, we needed a photo album for both the artiest and the tattoo specialist, as well as the shop tour. Then we added a dynamic “Event” page and the shopping cart connected to PayPal.

Award Winning Web Design Company

What Does an ‘Award Winning Web Design Company’ mean anyway?

About 8 years ago, I went to a meeting at a PC keyboard company in Oakland, California for a discussion about KO Websites building a new website for them. The meeting went very well, but was typical, in that there was one person who was trying to trip up the web guy, proving they knew more tech than the web guy did. I was used to this and survived well until the last question was thrown at me…It was, “so how many awards has your company won?” Continue reading

Tech Talk: Make a GREEN CD-DVD case

Save on plastic and reuse a tree!

Someone e-mailed me this, this week, so I don’t claim to be the inventor nor know who to give the credit too, but I thought this was very useful. Many times, I’ve been handed a CD or DVD from a client, with no case, cover or sleeve and found myself looking around for a blank one. Once retrieving the data from the CD/DVD, it sits in a pile I call the ‘send back to client file’ or it gets thrown in their file folder, only to later fall out onto the floor.

What if there was a simple “green” way to save on the plastic used and a better way to store them in a folder? Well here it is. Take some scrap printer paper and make one of these. You can even write on it, which I really like.

Do you have a cool free tech tool idea? Leave a comment here about it.
